Big things happened at our house last week!

Ava, my almost 5-year-old, went to her first day of preschool.

It is only 2 days a week for 2.5 hours but still it is change and much needed.

SAD Ian

Ian was VERY sad that Ava was getting into the car without him and each day he seems a little more lost at home once she is gone. I know he will adjust but suddenly I realized why more kids can be better for the pure and simple reason that they entertain each other and can the heat off of mommy’s back. Trust me…my back is plenty hot these days!

Eli got another tooth and started making all these crazy faces that have us all laughing and in tears. The new tooth is big because as of now he only had the two bottom, middle teeth and one of his incisors!

Looks pretty silly now because do you know what tooth came in?

(normally I would insert picture here however the little bugger is too quick and always grabbing the camera so all I would have to show would be a blurry close-up of his drool)

The one next to his incisor(technically it is incisor A and B that he has…just wanted to be a smarty pants for a moment) so he looks all lopsided. We were calling him a snaggle tooth but now that doesn’t really work…still funny though.

Anyway…

Ava had her first day of preschool which made me feel a little sick and brought visions of all the horrible things that COULD go wrong.

What if she pees her pants? She could get hurt on the playground and I wouldn’t be there. What if the other kids notice that she is a little different (half Asian in a town full of toe-heads) than they are.

The list goes on…

Nothing did go wrong of course and she came home insanely pleased with her day.

Dropping her off made me realize that I had not really prepared well for this day. We really hadn’t practiced getting up earlier. First thing she said to me when I tried to wake her up “why is school so EARLY?”.

That one I could not answer as I was feeling the same pain of utter grogginess and I too desired to roll over and go back to sleep.

We all survived though and week two is going as smoothly as it can. She is thrilled to go but Ian…he is another story!

I have to say that each day she gets up excited and comes home even more excited. Today she was teaching Ian all the songs they learned in school and the stories that went along with them. Worth every minute of lost sleep right there.

    My boys are different from each other so we do things that my oldest rather not do like play superheros or bake a suprise for when his brother gets home. Telling him to draw his brother a card also keeps him occupied for a bit.

      Love all those suggestions! My biggest struggle is trying to figure out how a 10 month old and a 3 1/2-year-old can play together?? Tough one. I know it will work itself out but it makes for a rough morning trying to keep them playing nice and interacting.

    My youngest used to get sad about saying goodbye. Then I started a “what fun things are WE going to do today?” AFTER my oldest got out of the car. It became our private little plan, something a youngest child doesn’t often get – privacy with mom.

      Great idea Missy! A little hard to execute because I actually work a ft job with the kids home with me. I have been trying to offer Ian different activities that he doesn’t usually get to do as often (ones that Ava doesn’t love). Eli is too young to participate though so Ian ends up having to wait until he goes down for a nap. I know it will work itself out but in the interim it is frustrating!
